"It's been nearly 50 years that we've been together." She said, her breath shaky. He didn't dare look into her eyes. "Are you going to tell me about your past?" She asked. Her pale white hand reached out, and forced him to look into her topaz eyes. "Edward Anthony Cullen. Are you going to tell me?" He shook his head from her grasp, and returned his gaze to the floor. Frustrated, she threw her hands in the air. "You're impossible!" With that, she stood up and left him. He kept his gaze on the floor, even as his sister walked in.
"You're going to have to tell her sometime, Edward" She said, her voice was comforting, but not enough to break him from his shell. He sighed as Alice sat down next to him. She lifted her arm, and draped it over him. She gently rubbed his back. "She's your wife, your mate. Shouldn't she know about your past?" Alice asked. He looked at her, even as a vampire, his eyes were misty.
"Alice, I can't let her be dragged into the past. I can't let her know what kind of monster, he was." He stopped. He didn't want to say anymore. He didn't want to remember. But Alice wouldn't leave. She rested her head on his shoulder, and kept her arms around him.
"Its the past..... Its the past." She assured him. He slowly lifted his hand up, to grasp her wrist.
"Alice, you know he's alive." She didn't respond. "I saw him. The other day, when I was with Bella, and Nessie." Her breath caught. "He's getting closer." He said again. He closed his eyes. "I know him, he'll hurt both of them." Alice shushed him.
"He came around once before. And now we're stronger. We have Bella and Nessie" Edward shifted himself out of her grasp.
"Last time, he came around, you and Rose, both got hurt. Emmett has never forgiven me for letting Rose get hurt. Jasper only recently started to forgive me. Everyday, I hear Emmett's thoughts about it. Jasper's, are decreasing." Alice sighed.
"But, they know it wasn't your fault-" Edward cut her off.
"Alice! He's after me. He wants me. And he won't stop hurting people I love, until he gets me." He stood up. Alice stood up as well.
"No! We're a family. A family sticks together, no one gets left behind." Edward rolled his eyes.
"I don't need to hear, some disney line." It was Alice's turn to roll her eyes.
"It wasn't a disney line. It's the truth. I've stood by you throughout all this. And I will keep standing by you, until the day that I am destroyed." Edward sighed, she meant that. "Now, you can tell her or I will." He lifted his head to look at her.
"I don't want her to know." She moved over to him and embraced him.
"I know, but she should know."
"She wouldn't have to, if I gave myself up years ago." At that statement, Alice's delicate hand raised up and struck Edward. For someone so small, she had a lot of force.
"Don't say things like that!" He looked at her, with shock. "We all love you. We're not going to let you give yourself up just to protect us. We've been hurt, and we'll be hurt again. You can't stop that. We love you. We don't want you to get hurt." She embraced him once again. He closed his eyes tight, and broke down, embracing her back. She let him tell her everything.
