Head buried in a book, Gia walked slowly toward the Academy of Athena. As rumor had it, the students called her new school The Parthenon. Why that was, she had no idea although she was a little curious to find out. The noise of people made her look up from The Once and Future King. “It’s a beautiful day in hell,” she mumbled to herself.
Sighing, she closed her book and walked up the front steps. Nothing seemed to put a bigger not in her stomach than the first day of school. Especially a new school. Gia noted a lot of stares and whispers directed at her, even some pointed fingers. Didn’t teenagers have anything better to do than gossip about the new kid?
“You know, I don’t understand how some little nobody goes from public to private,” a snobbish voice announced from behind her.
Repressing the urge to scream, Gia sighed and turned to face the redhead sitting on a bench with two of her little minions. All three were smirking triumphantly, but the minions were trying to suppress their laughter. She tried not to let them bother her. After all, how were some powerless spoiled brats like them important to a witch like herself? Not in the least, and neither were their opinions. Gia had every intention of making that known.
“It’s called an academic scholarship. I’m able to go here because of my brains,” she answered slowly, as if speaking to a child, “although I seriously doubt an education will do you any good in life.” The redhead squinted at her, confused, so Gia sighed and decided to clarify herself. “You don’t need schooling to get a good job and make good money. All you really need is a nice, sturdy…pole.”
Turning around with a surprised but proud smirk, Gia clutched her messenger bag. Biting her lip, she chuckled to herself as she heard the redhead huffing behind her. She was shouting at her so-called friends about not sticking up for her. It was quite pathetic really. Shaking her, she wandered into the school thinking that the day could, with any luck, only get better.

Olivia was at her locker trying to get herself organized for the rest of the day. She didn't get much sleep last night and it was clearly showing in the way she was functioning this morning. She had one crazy dream that kept her up all night. It was about Nicholas though he had strange red eyes. He seemed more like a beast than human. Olivia shook her head thinking about it again. It probably had something to do with what Rosalie told her in gym class that last time. Olivia slammed her locker and slid her bookbag on her back. She was going to make it through the day or at least she told herself that.
Walking through the halls, Olivia noticed a lot of new faces. It was probably because of the recent scholarships that went out to the winners. Even though Olivia was happy to have these kids attending the school, it also meant a hell of a lot more people being picked on. Olivia tried to look out for people but sometimes it was a losing cause.
Olivia was lost in her own thought that she didn't pay attention to where she was going. She nearly walked right into someone. "Oh sorry.." Olivia examined the girl more closely. She seemed to be one of the new girls that Olivia was just thinking about. Olivia gave the girl a friendly smiled.

If it had seemed like there were a lot of students just by how many were hanging around outside, being inside made Gia realize there weren't a lot of students. There were a ton of students! She knew the school was big but, this many people? It was ridiculous!
Just trying to find her locker felt like a one-way mission into the belly of the beast. People were rude, would sneer at her as she squeezed her way through, trying not to get lost but getting more turned around by the second. That was when someone almost walked into her.
"Oh sorry." the girl gave her a friendly smile, which she shakily returned. Finally, a kind face!
"It's fine. Probably my fault anyway. I was just...contemplating my escape," she joked nervously.

"It's fine. Probably my fault anyway. I was just...contemplating my escape," Olivia chuckled back. At a first glance, the girl seemed pretty down-to-earth which was a trait Olivia liked to hung around with. "Oh so you're new here? Don't worry you'll find ways to escape from here; more mentally than physically." Olivia gave her an enjoying smile. Most of the students had their own vices to get through school, Olivia's was art and witchcraft. "My name is Olivia Landon" Olivia extended her hand for a handshake. She wasn't expecting anyone to recognize her name since her family wasn't one of those top rich families that everyone knew there name; she liked it that way.

The girl chuckled back, actually smiling. Relieved, Gia let out a breath she hadn't known she'd been holding. This girl wasn't being fake or pretending to be nice like the girls outside had been. This girl was genuinely being kind. If there was one thing Gia highly respected, it was those who were kind to others even though they had nothing to gain.
"Oh so you're new here? Don't worry you'll find ways to escape from here; more mentally than physically. My name is Olivia Landon." Olivia extended her hand for a handshake.
"Gia Alpert,” she replied, shaking the offered hand with a genuine smile. "I hope you're right, about the escaping, I mean. I could sure use one right about now." Looking around the hallway discreetly, she again noted the stares and whispers. Turning to Oliver with a smile, she commented, "You're the first person I've met that hasn't gawked at me."

"You're the first person I've met that hasn't gawked at me." Olivia cringed thinking how horrible her school was behaving. She knew all too well how this school dealt with gossip and rumors. Gossip girl was pretty much programed into everyone's phone so that they could be on top of these things.
"Ya this place can be like that. As for the escape, you just have to find your vice. I enjoy art among other things. What about you?" She thought this simple question could lead to some more information on the new girl.

Olivia cringed at her and that was all Gia needed to know just what kind of school she'd walked into. She'd heard a lot of stories and rumors surrounding the school, the boiler room was a particularly interesting point. As it turned out, the biggest source of information for students was the so-called Gossip Girl. Gia had no interest in the gossip queen herself, as she prefered to make her own judgments on people instead of listening to the opinions of some cyberspace wannabe-demi-goddess.
...It was just those kind of thoughts that would probably land her on GG's blacklist, she realized. Great!
"Ya this place can be like that. As for the escape, you just have to find your vice. I enjoy art among other things. What about you?"
"Actually, I'm an artist, too," she replied. "Although I prefer the unconventional mediums, like, um...well," she laughed, scratching her head as she flushed a bit in embarassment, "taking something plain and making it into something beautiful is sorta my thing, you know? There's other stuff, but I don't want to bore you into being late for class," she joked. "Maybe I'll see you in art class. I have a..." Pausing, she pulled her schedule out of her bag and looked at her schedule. "...L. Owens. You?"
For the first time in a long time, Gia was looking forward to getting to know someone. She couldn't remember the last friend she had, and Olivia seemed like a great person and living in New York was hard enough without the stigma of being friendless. Unless you counted her Austrailian Shepherd, Diego, and her boss, Marjory, Gia was all alone. She didn't even talk to her neighbors! But her pet dog and her overbearing, overweight menopausal employer could only go so far in the friendship department.

Olivia listened in, glad to finally have another artist around to talk to . Most of her other friends weren't really big on art. Their kind of art was the photos from Vogue. "Unconvential art? Kinda like metal work, more sulptural art, right? Im more into painting and photography myself." "taking something plain and making it into something beautiful is sorta my thing, you know? There's other stuff, but I don't want to bore you into being late for class," Olivia smiled at Gia. She seemed like something Olivia could really hang out with. "Definitely not a bore. But you are right about the late to class bit. Maybe we can talk about it more later" "Maybe I'll see you in art class. I have a...L.Owens" Olivia nodded. "Ya Leola. She's cool. Im in that class as well. Ill see you there."

"Unconvential art? Kinda like metal work, more sulptural art, right? Im more into painting and photography myself."
Another artist, at last! Back in public school, she was known as the "weird art kid" that nobody wanted to get too close to. It sucked, but she always knew it was a risk being the outsider. At least here she'd find like-minded people. Photography was a medium she really wanted to try a hand at; hopefully, she'd get a chance.
"Maybe we can talk about it more later?" After mentioning that she had a Ms. Owens for art, Gia couldn't help but smile when Olivia said she had the same teacher. Not only that, but it was a good teacher. "I'll see you there." Maybe this school won't suck after all, she mused to herself with a smile.
"Definitely! See you around, and thanks again." She waved and smiled at Olivia before turning to leave, remembering that she still had to find her locker. "Oh, screw it! I'll be late for class."
